HOWTOs
How to import downloads from eMule
eDonkey can automatically use the temp files that eMule creates,
but it works better if you use this conversion method to convert
them to eDonkey's new temp file format. This requires that you
have a proper #.part.met file for your download. If
MetFileRegenerator complains you will need to run it in recovery
mode first.
-
Run MetFileRegenerator in Conversion mode. Input your eMule temp
directory and then select the #.part.met file that you'd like to
convert.
-
On the next screen set the output directory to be your eDonkey
temp directory (MetFileRegenerator will add the filename after
any directory you select). If you are no longer going to use
eMule then you can have MetFileRegenerator delete the original
files once it's done creating the new ones.
-
Your file will be processed. If eDonkey is running you will need
to restart it in order to have it load the file. If you have
already moved the #.part and #.part.met file to the eDonkey
temp directory make sure you have MetFileRegenerator delete the
original files or else eDonkey will continue loading them
instead of your converted download.
How to import downloads from non-eDonkey filesharing clients
-
Use eDonkey's search function to find the exact same file and
begin downloading it in eDonkey. The files need to be IDENTICAL.
-
Use MetFileRegenerator's View/Edit mode to check the .part.met
file of the download you've started in eDonkey. Once either the
chunk or crumb hashes are present then you can proceed.
-
Copy the file from your other program to eDonkey's temp folder
and rename it 1.part (make sure windows isn't hiding the file
extension from you)
-
Run MetFileRegenerator in recovery mode and select 1.part as the
file to recover and press next.
-
You shouldn't need to change any of the recovery options so
press next again.
-
MetFileRegenerator will now hash your file and compare that info
to the info in the .part.met file that eDonkey created. If the
file is a match then MetFileRegenerator will present you with a
list of candidates. Select the appropriate one and press next.
-
Now cancel the download in eDonkey and restart eDonkey.
-
If no candidates are found then try waiting until the crumb
hashes are present or if they are present then either you didn't
download a matching file or your download doesn't have enough
valid data to recover.
How to recover lost downloads
-
Run MetFileRegenerator in recovery mode and select the download
to recover.
-
If PartMetBackup has a copy of your file's .part.met file the
option 'Use backups from PartMetBackup' will be available and
selected. This will quickly copy the file over and allow you to
continue the download in eDonkey, but it may not necessarily
recover everything you've downloaded. If you want to try and
recover more deselect the box and click next.
-
MetFileRegenerator will now hash your file and try to find a
match. This process takes some time, but it will not need to be
repeated until your file is modified again.
-
A list of matching files will be presented if any are found. If
the proper file is listed, select it and press next. If the
proper file is not listed or no candidates are found then you
will need to restart the download to help MetFileRegenerator get
the appropriate data.
-
Use eDonkey's search function to find the exact same file (or
use an ed2k link if you remember where you got it from).
-
Use MetFileRegenerator's View/Edit mode to check the .part.met
file of the download you've started. Once the crumb or chunk
hashes are present you can try recovering your original download
again.
-
If a candidate is found click next and then cancel the download
you started in eDonkey and restart eDonkey.
-
If no candidates are found and the crumb hashes weren't present,
wait until they are and try again. If the download still cannot
be recovered then you did not download the right file or your
download doesn't have enough valid data to recover.
How to forcibly complete downloads
You should only use this method as a last resort. Using
MetFileRegenerator to complete your file will result in missing
parts of the created file since eDonkey doesn't have that data.
This is not a magical solution to properly finish downloads; it
simply puts all your data into one file which is more usable than
the multiple files that eDonkey stores its downloads in.
-
Run MetFileRegenerator in Completion mode and input your eDonkey
temp directory.
-
Select the download you wish to complete and press next.
-
Enter the file you would like created by MetFileRegenerator and
select whether you'd like the temp files deleted.
-
Your file will be processed and if any errors occur moving the
file you will be told where it is located.
How to merge data from one download (or file) into another
MetFileRegenerator does not check if the data it is inserting
matches the hashes of the download receiving the data. If you are
moving data from an arbitrary file or a different download than
use this at your own risk and it might be wise to run
MetFileRegenerator's recovery mode after this.
-
Run MetFileRegenerator in Merge mode and input your eDonkey
temp directory.
-
On the next screen, select which download will be receiving the
data. It must have a valid #.part.met file.
-
Next you select the source of the data. You may either select
another download from the list (it must be a different physical
download even if they are downloading the exact same file) or
you may select "Other Source" and use the textbox below to enter
a file name (or use Browse).
-
The last screen before the merge process shows you details about
which exact file will be the source and the destination for data
(or folder if either is a new style download). It will also show
the amount of data that MetFileRegenerator has determined that
the destination can use from the source.
